The Alliance for Women is building a web of allies across the state, dedicated to common goals of bettering the status of South Carolina women.  The following organizations are already working with us to achieve our mission:

The Alliance for Women Interagency Council: a council of individuals from each state agency with a mission to focus state agency attention on the status of women in South Carolina and within state government to (1) improve services within agencies, (2) increase collaboration among agencies, and (3) develop and support women as leaders in state government. The Alliance for Women Higher Education Coalition: a coalition of representatives from each college and university in South Carolina with a mission to share information and resources to improve the status of women in South Carolina. For more information, email lsalane@colacoll.edu.

The Women's Business Center: supporting the growth of women owned businesses throughout the state. For more information, email info@scwbc.org.

South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy: supporting education and programs to decrease teen pregnancy in South Carolina. For more information, go to www.teenpregnancysc.org

Coalition to Improve Women's Health in South Carolina: a coalition of health care providers and community leaders using 2004 research study funded by Columbia University School of Public Health to bring about change in women's health indicators.

South Carolina Women Work! A state affiliate of the National Network for Women's Employment dedicated to providing education and workforce development to women of South Carolina. For more information, contact Vanessa Nelson-Reed at vnelson@sde.sc.us.

South Carolina Campaign Schools: supporting two non-partisan campaign schools based out of Charleston and Greenville (WAVE: Women Achieving Victory Everytime. For more information, contact Deb Sofield at deb@sofield.com) to provide training and encouragement for women considering running for political office.

Women in Philanthropy: women in Columbia and surrounding counties who pool financial resources and make philanthropic investments to address root causes of strategic issues facing women and children in the Midlands. For more information, go to www.womeninphilanthropy.org
 

Sistercare: a program of services for battered women and their children residing in Richland, Lexington, Fairfield, Newberry and Kershaw counties in South Carolina. For more information, go to www.sistercare.com.

Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands: an organization which first began serving victims of sexual assault in 1984 as the Rape Crisis Network whose mission is to provide services to sexual trauma survivors and education about sexual trauma issues. For more information, go to www.stsm.org.

YWCA of the Midlands: an organization offering three main areas of programming including after school programming for 5 schools in Richland District One, the Eureka program for girls aged 9-16, and the Women's Resource Center for professional development and employment training. Midland's Women's Center: a program member of the South Carolina Association of Pregnancy Care Centers, who represent private, non-profit Christian ministries that offer women in crisis pregnancies an alternative to abortion. The center's areas of counsel include abortion, adoption, single parenting, family relationships and lifestyles. For more information, please call 803.432.7000.

Daybreak Crisis Pregnancy Center: an organization whose mission is to serve you and your family during an unplanned pregnancy. Planned Parenthood: a not-for-profit agency that offers professional, personal reproductive health care that allows you to make more informed decisions about your health. For more information, go to www.pphsinc.org.

Breast Center at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center: a center started by physicians to provide women diagnosed with breast cancer coordinated, sensitive care that is medically sound, technologically advanced, and responsive to their emotional as well as physical needs. Providence Hospital Red Dress Campaign: a center designed with women in mind to provide private heart screenings by advanced nurse practitioners who will explain the findings and assess your personal risk for heart disease.  For more information, please visit www.provhosp.com.

Women with Tools: an organization formed in 1999 for the purpose of providing honest integrity to the residential remodeling industry for women interested in learning how to do household remodeling projects on their own.  For further information, call 803.791.7575.

Women Breast Center at Lexington Medical Center: a concerted effort between radiologists, pathologists and physicians that will enable the Breast Health medical staff to streamline the process of detection to diagnosis in only five days. This system was created to provide a network of education and emotional support for patients. For more information, visit www.lexmed.com.

Women's Shelter: an environment created for women ages 18 and older who may be dealing with issues related to alcohol, mental illness, drugs, or those who have just been released from the prison system. For more information, call 803.779.4706.

Women's Resource Center: a support system for women who are HIV positive designed to enhance the quality of life, and to empower women living with HIV/AIDS to take charge of their own lives. Acercamiento Hispano Outreach: the South Carolina Hispanic Outreach oriented to preserve the dignity, promote the well being, and improve the quality of life of the Hispanic/Latino community in South Carolina. For more information, go to www.schispanicoutreach.org.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC): a nutrition program geared towards new mothers, pregnant women, and children up to five years of age. National Organization for Women, Greater Columbia Chapter: the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States. NOW's goal is to take action to bring about equality for all women. NOW works to eliminate discrimination and harassment in the workplace, schools, the justice system, and all other sectors of society. For more information, visit www.now.org.

Zonata - Columbia Chapter: a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to advance the status of women.

DIVA International: supports, makes contributions, and raises funds for the community and other organizations that advocate the empowerment of women and children. DIVA works to advocate the ability of empowerment by providing opportunities for entry level computer training classes, image consultations, wellness programs, self-awareness and esteem workshops and just plain care and love. Foundations are funding research on women and girls because otherwise the information is unavailable. Invisibility is the highest form of discrimination. When you try to find statistics on women and girls, we come up empty handed.
